How to ensure that aid empowers urban poor groups

I found this TED talk very illustrative about how the aid system works in the world, and David Shatterthwait shows a way to emprove this system drown in burocracy. All this protocols can be used all around the world, making problems smaller so a small community of people can arrange themselfs and solve their daily problems.

Allan Savory: How to green the desert and reverse climate change

“Desertification is a fancy word for land that is turning to desert,” begins Allan Savory in this quietly powerful talk. And terrifyingly, it's happening to about two-thirds of the world’s grasslands, accelerating climate change and causing traditional grazing societies to descend into social chaos. Savory has devoted his life to stopping it. He now believes -- and his work so far shows -- that a surprising factor can protect grasslands and even reclaim degraded land that was once desert.

This inspirational TED talk shows a solution to stop the desertification process that is developing in our planet. I find very interesting the process to achieve this and the collateral results of this method. Starving communities near desert areas will have an economical and rewarding way to survive as they protect the environment and make it even better. In the project I'm developing this technique would be very appropriate to use in order to be self sufficient in terms of food, and also in recovering the desert areas into green and habitable spaces.

Back to the Start

The Mexican food company Chipotle created this ad just to see what achieves in the internet, and since it became famous, they released it on theaters and tv too, and it showed how people are interested in this sort of ideas of sutainability also in food. I believe it’s important to have a sustainable behaviour in all aspects in life, because that will affect in everything we do, eat and use.

WikiHouse. An open source project

"WikiHouse is an open source construction set. It’s aim is to allow anyone to desing, download, and ‘print’ CNC-milled houses and components which can be assembled with minimal formal skill or training."

This is a very interesting project based in the open source concept, which I’d love to include in my project. It uses the creative commons license, which is the alternative to copyright you usually find in every product. I believe that the technology nowadays provides the methods to build yourself a house like a piece of furniture, and this concept adapts perfectly to the “emergency status” of the world reset project. In the future, as the web and the projects develops it would be very interesting to post all the information to be downloaded and used for everybody who want to.

There is no tomorrow

This video demonstrates the evidences of how the humanity is exploiting and consuming all kind of resources and the only alternatives are all based in oil transformations.
It is a bit negative in my opinion but very helpful to make yourself an idea of how the future can be. At the final minutes it shows a few ideas to be part of the solution instead of part of the problem.
The biggest problem for our actual way of life is the peek oil. The perspective of running out of this energy and material source can be dramatic, but science can be the answer, we will have to believe in our capacity to act in order to our future challenges.

The Garbage Warrior

“The epic story of radical Earthship eco architect Michael Reynolds, and his fight to build off-the-grid self-sufficient communities.”
In the desert of New Mexico this architect achieve to develop a self sufficient community, with houses that, despite being in the middle of nowhere, are capable of obtain enough energy, water and food from the environment to survive in a hostile place like the desert.
I think it´s an interesting project that should be an example for other places in the world. And the web site provides information to build this houses and learn from their experience.

Just starting the project

I’d like to start with this Ted Talk, as an inspiration for me and my project. I think the best way to work out the problems of the world is through science and knowledge, and this video is a great example of that.
